It can be used to format hard drives, WORM drives, and magneto-optical devices. NOTE: A low-level format is implemented differently by each SCSI manufacturer. Some devices will return immediately without altering the media, others will take up to two hours to finish processing. Assume that all information contained on the device will be destroyed by FMTSCSI! FMTSCSI requires that an ASPI Manager be loaded. Consult the AdvanSCSI User's Guide for more information on installing an AdvanSys ASPI Manager. To run FMTSCSI, type: FMTSCSI [host.]target[lun]: This notation can be used to specify any connected device. (Remember that ASPI host adapters are numbered starting at 0). The host and LUN (logical unit) number will default to 0 if not specified. For a system with only one host adapter installed, it is sufficient to simply type the target's ID number followed by a colon. For example, to format a device with ID #2, type: FMTSCSI 2: To format a device with ID #0 on the second host adapter, type: FMTSCSI 1.0: In all cases, the program will display the device's identification and verify that it is okay to perform a low-level format. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright (c) 1995 Advanced System Product Inc.
